Strong student leadership is a feature of CWBS school life, with many opportunities for students to take on responsibility and act as positive role models.

Action & Student Leadership
Student Council
The Student Council at CWBS provides a platform and foundation for student voice and advocacy of student needs. Our representatives from Years 3 to 6 meet regularly to share ideas and develop their leadership skills. In addition, the Student Council coordinates and implements a number of fundraising and social activities. Through these initiatives, the Student Council fosters a sense of responsibility and community engagement among students.
The House System
At Clearwater Bay School, students and staff are organised into four houses named after Chinese dragons: Jialong, Shenlong, Dilong, and Yinglong.
Each house features four leader:
- 2 House Captains (one boy and one girl)
- 2 Vice-Captains (one boy and one girl)
Leaders are selected by teachers in collaboration with the senior leadership team. These student leaders exemplify the learner profile by being principled, effective communicators, and risk-takers. They inspire participation in school events and manage weekly house points.
In addition to their leadership roles, they support younger students during sports days, run lunchtime activities, engage in charitable initiatives, and work closely with teachers and the leadership team. They are also encouraged to develop their own initiatives, fostering teamwork and competition as they strive to earn House Points for the House Cup and excel at Sports Day. This structure not only promotes leadership skills but also enhances the sense of community within the school.
In the 2023-24 school year, student-led events included the 'Box of Hope' charity campaign, where students created promotional videos, organised communications, and successfully collected over 500 boxes from families.
Other leadership opportunities, such as roles for Library Monitors, Technology Leaders, and Sports Leaders, further empower students to support the community. Moreover, students in Years 4, 5, and 6 have the opportunity to be 'Buddies' to younger students, fostering a sense of mentorship and connection that enriches school life.
Eco Warriors
Our Eco-warriors are a group who love taking action to protect the environment. This dedicated team meets weekly to brainstorm new initiatives and promote sustainability within the school community. Previous projects undertaken by the group include training eco-monitors, composting lunch waste, and investigating the recycling process at CWBS. Last year saw the group organise lunchtime gardening clubs, a Clothes Swap and book sale in collaboration with HKUST, and an engaging Green Week filled with workshops and activities. Their efforts not only foster a sense of community but also inspire others to join in caring for the planet, demonstrating that even young voices can create meaningful change.
Student Ambassadors
The Student Tour Ambassador program offers Year 5 students a unique opportunity to showcase our school to visitors and prospective families. As ambassadors, students lead tours, sharing insights about our educational programs, highlighting the facilities, as well as sharing their own student experience that makes our school special. This role not only allows them to develop leadership and communication skills but also fosters a sense of pride in their school community. At the end of the year, ambassadors will train the next group of students, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities and continuing the tradition.
