School Council

School Council

Clearwater Bay School Council acts as the governing body for our school. The council provides support and challenges for the school leadership team in order to ensure high quality education for students. In addition, the council approves and ratifies all school policy, budget and appointments. According to the ESF ordinance, the council must be composed of a mixture of parent, teacher, ESF and community representatives. By drawing on the strengths of voluntary representatives, including staff, parents, ESF colleagues and members of the wider community, all members have a voice in the process of school improvement, and valuable guidance is provided through members’ knowledge and expertise.

Throughout the year, middle leaders and senior leaders join council meetings to share progress in the annual priority areas, and other significant aspects of school development. Presentations give members an insight into the life of the school, and allow progress against the identified priority areas to be monitored and reviewed. Recent examples of such presentations include diverse topics including: Chinese Language; Learning and Achievement data, Admissions and Enrollment, Learning Technologies; and Residential Camps.

Members are supported in their role through council member training, led by ESF Director of Governance. Training sessions allow members to revisit aspects of the role of council member and also consider the purpose and focus of the group, and how it provides both support and challenge for students, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant ordinance.

On an ongoing basis, the school council maintains their focus on ensuring that the school is the best possible learning environment for students. The considered work of the council in support of financial management, premises development, and staffing / recruitment ensures that the school is stable and in the best position to support our students in their learning and wellbeing.
