Hello from Chengdu!

A group of Year 5 students, accompanied by Ms Jeynes, Ms Yuan, Ms Li, Ms Wu, Mr Gay, and Ms Teresa, are currently in Chengdu for a week of immersive learning and cultural connection.

A central part of the journey has been our visit to our sister school, Panda Road School. The group was warmly welcomed by an assembly featuring a variety of performances, after which CWBS and Panda Road School students enjoyed a friendly football match, providing a wonderful opportunity to build friendships. Our students are also joining classes to experience school life firsthand.

Beyond the classroom, the group is exploring the city’s significant landmarks and history, including the Sanxingdui Museum, Wuhou Temple, and People’s Park. Of course, no trip to Chengdu would be complete without a visit to the Panda Sanctuary to learn about the care and conservation of these endearing giant pandas.

We can’t wait to have everyone back on campus and are excited to hear the students share their new discoveries, personal highlights, and everything they have learned from this wonderful cultural adventure.

Things got seriously colourful this week in Year 3. The students have been experimenting with a range of artistic styles, discussing what makes each artist unique, and comparing calm, steady techniques with more energetic approaches.

A particular highlight was their Jackson Pollock–inspired artwork, where they explored action painting, enjoying splattering, dripping, and flicking paint to create a striking collaborative class piece.

More school sports update! The boys kicked off this week’s double-header of basketball events at a very picturesque Yuen Wo Playground in Sha Tin on Wednesday. CWBS was once again well represented with two teams among the 18 in total competing for the championship.

After a blistering start of 3 victories in a row, both our teams finished the day having won half of their matches and narrowly missing out on a place in the semi finals. We competed incredibly well in every game and our players should be very proud of their performance and attitude throughout.

Thanks as always to our wonderful parent support who were there to cheer on our student athletes and Mr.Pattison and Mr. Williams for coaching the squad.

It’s been an action-packed stretch for CWBS sports! From Discovery Bay to Pok Fu Lam and Tai Po, our student-athletes have been out in full force, showing remarkable grit and sportsmanship across three sports events. At the HKPSSA Cross-Country Championships in Discovery Bay, our runners battled fierce competition and warm conditions to smash their personal bests, and that momentum carried right into the Tai Po Cross-Country Festival. We are so proud to celebrate our top finishers: Ho Lam took 1st place, followed by Leonard in 2nd, Charles in 3rd, and Spencer in 5th. Huge congratulations also go to Sophia, Amber, and Antoine for their outstanding top-5 finishes!

The energy continued at the HKPSSA Tag Rugby Championships at Stanley Ho Sports Ground, where CWBS stood out as the only school to field three full squads. Our Boys A team finished the day unbeaten, while our Boys B team made fantastic progress and our Girls team earned a well-deserved 3rd place finish in their group.

A massive thank you to Mr Gay, Mr Williams, and Mr Pattison for their dedication to the teams throughout the ECA program. Finally, a huge shout-out to the families who made the long trips to Lantau, Tai Po, and Pok Fu Lam, having you there on the sidelines to cheer means the world to our young athletes! Go CWBS!

Last Friday, our school turned into a living storybook for Book Character Day! The playground and classrooms were full of creativity as students and staff dressed in amazing outfits inspired by their favorite stories. We held a Character Catwalk where students had a chance to feature their unique costumes and share their characters with the whole school. It was such a fun way to celebrate reading and bring our favorite books to life!

Huge congratulations to our Chinese BOB (Battle of the Books) team for or claiming the championship title today!

Competing against 7 other ESF schools, our students showed incredible grit and knowledge. After months of studying two books and tackling a series of questions, they secured the win in an extremely close and hard-fought final.

We celebrate their remarkable focus and passion for literature. Thank you, Ms Wu and Ms Li for leading the team and our parent volunteers for supporting today. Well done, team!

Book Week has officially arrived, and something truly extraordinary has taken root in our school. If you wander quietly enough, you might just find our very own Magic Tree - a whimsical sight reminiscent of the one found in Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree.

This isn’t just any tree, it’s a gateway to other worlds. Our students have been busy exploring with every sense engaged, while our Year 1 explorers have written letters to the folk living deep within.

The wonder doesn't stop at this magical creation, as there are plenty of ways to bring a new story home this week. Our Book Fair is open today and tomorrow for those looking for a brand-new adventure, followed by our Second-Hand Book Sale this Thursday to find a pre-loved treasure. Finally, we are all looking forward to the Book Character Parade this Friday, where our students will bring the school to life as their favourite characters!

It’s going to be a week full of wonder, imagination, and the joy of getting lost in a story. ✨

Our Year 4 students had a brilliant time on their camp this week! With perfect weather on our side, they jumped straight into kayaking, hiking, and team activities with incredible energy. A major highlight was watching their engineering skills in action as they built and tested their very own catapults.

It was a fantastic learning experience focused on teamwork and resilience. We are so proud of how every student participated and making the most of every moment.!

It has been a productive week of real-world learning as our Year 3 and Year 5 students took their inquiries beyond the classroom and into the vibrant streets and kitchens of our community.

As part of their How We Organise Ourselves unit, our Year 3 chefs traded their notebooks for aprons this week. To better understand food production and systems, the students visited a local pizzeria to see a professional production line in action. From stretching the dough to the placement of toppings, they learned that making the perfect pizza isn't just delicious, it’s a masterclass in efficiency and organisation.

Meanwhile, Year 5 hit the pavement in Causeway Bay for their How We Express Ourselves unit. Their mission was to investigate the central idea that media can shape thinking and behavior. During their Media Walk, the children immersed themselves in the practical world of advertising to apply their newly acquired knowledge. They sharpened their critical thinking skills by focusing on different adverts and their purposes, while also identifying various pricing strategies like bundling and charm pricing in a real-world context.

It is wonderful to see our students applying their classroom knowledge to the world around them. Thank you once again to our parent volunteers who kindly gave their time to support these trips.
